Chicago Independent Bookstore Day
Including an appearance by Tribune columnist
Nine indie bookstores in Chicago are teaming up to create the first Chicago Independent Bookstore Day! To encourage Chicago readers to visit their own neighborhood store, as well as the other unique stores in different neighborhoods--from Hyde Park to Logan Square to Andersonville--indie bookstores are offering special deals, free books, and refreshments. The first 20 customers at each store who spend $30 or more will receive a "passport" and their first handful of puzzle pieces. When you collect them all, the puzzle pieces fit together to create an exclusively designed frameable print by Chicago-based artist Lille Carré. And as a special treat for customers at W&CF, Tribune columnist Mary Schmich will be signing books and meeting customers at 1 p.m.!
