Beautifully written story with dynamic and believable characters, rich commentary, and a plot that had me hooked from start to finish (hard for me to turn down a good witchy book!) Giddings has created a world where women's autonomy is being threatened and surveilled but, as always, the power of community prevails.
If you are a performer or creator in any medium read this book! Especially if you're having a block or you are feeling uninspired. Coel really has a talent for storytelling and her personal story is one that celebrates individuality, non conformity, and artistic freedom.

Fantastical, fierce, and feral AF. Sorrowland is about a young girl, Vern, who escapes the religious cult in which she grew up and heads for the woods to create a life for herself and her babies. When she decides to confront her past outside of the woods, she learns troubling secrets about the cult who has changed her in ways unimaginable.
This is without a doubt one of the most fascinating memoirs I've ever read. Emezi's vulnerability is on full display in this collection of letters written to close friends and family as they process their experience as a successful writer, and the complicated feelings of being a spirit trapped within a human body. So poetic and powerful.
