Activism Series: Sierra Club Chicago & Citizens Climate Lobby

For the August edition of our Activism Series, we are proud to welcome Sierra Club Chicago and Citizens Climate Lobby.
Representatives from the Chicago chapter of the Sierra Club will be discussing their "Ready For 100%" Clean Energy Campaign. Sierra Club Chicago is currently collecting bottled water for East Chicago, which is facing a water crisis similar to the one in Flint, Michigan. The goal is to collect 10,000 bottles of water by the end of July. You can learn more at If you would like to donate bottled water or make a financial contribution to support the purchase of water filters, please ask Denise for the details. She can be reached at
Denise Corkery became a member of the Sierra Club just after the 2014 Peoples Climate March in New York City. She is now a member of the Chicago Group Executive Committee. She is also the Chair of the Illinois Lobby Team and is currently recruiting for the first Chicago Lobby Team. Both lobby teams advocate for Sierra Club-endorsed environmental legislation or ordinances and for strong environmental policies.Denise has also been active on a team dedicated to welcoming more than 300 people who have expressed an interest in volunteering since the 2016 election. At a time when strong national environmental protection policies have been eliminated or seriously weakened and continue to be in jeopardy, Denise is heartened by the outpouring of people who are feeling the need to step up and get involved at the local level. She hopes you will too—as there is important work ahead.

Andy Daglas is a volunteer with the Sierra Club's Chicago Group, active on the Communications, Lobby, and Political teams. He is also the Communications Lead for the Chicago Group's Ready For 100 campaign, part of a nationwide effort asking municipal leaders to commit cities to 100% clean energy. Follow us on Facebook at, and on Twitter at @SierraChicago and @SierraClubIL.
Citizens Climate Lobby is a grass roots organization focused on enacting national legislation on climate change. With over 60,000 volunteers nation wide, we've met with virtually every member of Congress. We are going neighborhood to neighborhood to create the political will necessary for change. We have momentum but we need more help. Learn about the policy we want to enact and how you can participate."
