In July 2011, Leigh Stein received a call letting her know that her ex-boyfriend Jason had been killed in a motorcycle accident. Leigh first met Jason when he was nineteen and she was twenty-two. Within months, they had fallen in love and moved to New Mexico, the “Land of Enchantment.” But what was supposed to be a romantic adventure quickly turned sinister, as Jason's behavior went from playful and spontaneous to controlling and erratic. In this unflinching memoir, Leigh Stein examines her grief over Jason’s death while also capturing the realities of intimate partner violence.
