Join us as we welcome three of the best female authors of crime fiction! Chicago-based Libby Fischer Hellmann, Lori Rader-Day, and Sara Paretsky have all published thrilling new novels in the past six months. For this event, all three authors will read from and discuss their most recent books: High Crimes (Fischer Hellmann), Under a Dark Sky (Rader-Day), and Shell Game (Paretsky).
Libby Fischer Hellmann left a career in broadcast news in Washington, DC, and moved to Chicago 35 years ago, where she began to write gritty crime fiction. She’s the author of fifteen novels and has been nominated for and won several awards in the mystery and crime writing community.
Lori Rader-Day’s debut mystery, The Black Hour, won the 2015 Anthony Award for Best First Novel and was a finalist for the 2015 Mary Higgins Clark Award. Her second novel, Little Pretty Things, won the 2016 Mary Higgins Clark Award and was a nominee for the Anthony Award for Best Paperback Original. Little Pretty Things was named a 2015 “most arresting crime novel” by Kirkus Reviews and one of the top ten crime novels of the year by Booklist. Her third novel, The Day I Died, was an Indie Next Pick and is a nominee for the Mary Higgins Clark and Barry awards.
Sara Paretsky is the New York Times-bestselling author of twenty previous novels, including the renowned V. I. Warshawski series. She is one of only four living writers—alongside John le Carré, Peter Lovesey, and Lawrence Block—to have received both the Grand Master Award from the Mystery Writers of America and the Cartier Diamond Dagger from the Crime Writers’ Association of Great Britain.
